Salacia is founded with a mission

From its foundation, Salacia is built around a simple conviction: industrial innovation can create economic value while contributing to the restoration and resilience of our environment.

Founded in France on 1 August 2025, Salacia - Sustainable Solutions was created around a clear ambition: to develop industrial solutions capable of transforming underused and problematic marine biomass into valuable resources for a more resilient and lower-carbon economy.

This ambition is reflected in Salacia’s commitment as a Société à mission - the French legal framework introduced by the PACTE law for companies that choose to formally integrate a purpose and social or environmental objectives into their corporate framework. For Salacia, this approach is more than a statement of intent: it establishes a long-term direction against which the company’s development, technological choices and environmental impact can be assessed.

At the heart of this mission is a challenge that is both environmental and industrial. Large quantities of marine biomass remain insufficiently valorized around the world. In some regions, the proliferation and accumulation of invasive sargassum can place significant pressure on coastlines, ecosystems, local communities and economic activities. Salacia sees this biomass not only as an environmental challenge, but also as a potential renewable resource that can be integrated into new circular value chains.

Our objective is therefore to develop technologies and industrial systems capable of converting marine biomass into useful products, with a particular focus on renewable energy and low-carbon fuels. By giving a new use to a resource that can otherwise become a burden, Salacia aims to connect environmental restoration with the development of scalable industrial solutions.

Being a Société à mission also reflects the way Salacia intends to grow. Industrial performance and environmental impact are not treated as competing objectives. We believe that solutions designed to operate at meaningful scale must be technically robust, economically viable and environmentally relevant at the same time. This principle influences our research programmes, our partnerships and the design of our future industrial infrastructure.

It also commits Salacia to a culture of measurement and accountability. Environmental benefits must be demonstrated rather than assumed. As our technologies progress from laboratory validation to pilot and ultimately industrial deployment, we intend to evaluate their performance through measurable indicators covering resource efficiency, emissions, biomass valorization and broader environmental impact.

Our mission also extends beyond the conversion technology itself. Building a new marine biomass value chain requires collaboration across research, engineering, coastal logistics, industry and local stakeholders. Salacia therefore seeks to create an ecosystem in which scientific expertise, industrial capability and local knowledge can contribute to solutions adapted to the territories where marine biomass is collected and valorized.

Choosing this framework from the beginning gives Salacia a reference point for the decades ahead. Technologies will evolve, markets will change and the company will grow, but the underlying objective remains constant: turn an environmental challenge into a resource and use industrial innovation to contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.
